The creation of Art and Cinema is the art of Alchemy.
Alembic Cinema is the producing company for the film projects of Lorelei Pepi, an animation filmmaker and time-based media artist living in Providence, Rhode Island.
Alembic: a device used by ancient alchemists searching for the Philosopher's Stone. The "stone" is interpreted in many ways, a few as being the "prima materia," the elixir of life, the Soul of the World, a representation of "perfect unity."
Alchemy's practice was based on the use of the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water, and focused on the concept of unifying heaven and earth. The Alembic, in this instance, is a signifier of the creative forces that seek to link art, science, and technology.
