Philosophy:

Historically, the re-working of cinematic practice and theory is a reoccurring act: tearing apart constructs in order to build them up again, and testing the definitions of time, duration, space, narrative structures and what it means to be a Spectator. This slippage between definitions is currently one of the most invigorating and exciting events happening in this century, as artists and theoreticians rise to examine the border-crossing potentials of time-based media. It is my belief that this is an important movement in media practices today, this conflation of narrative and real space, and technology is an integral motivating tool.

I am dedicated to the ideal of interdisciplinary art practice, and work that coalesces both time-based media and fine art. This kind of work frequently evolves into the practice of installation or performance, the practical manifestation of concepts with spatial attitude and awareness.

It is my particular interest and focus in reviewing how space, time, duration and contextual relationships can challenge the ideologies of narrative structure and the experience of the Spectator as they navigate the potential options.

What this means for me as an artist is taking my background in animation filmmaking, theater performance and design, and fine arts, and bringing them together. I am transforming my cinematic work into the theatrical performance space while diving it as fine art istallation and cinematic narrative combined. What follows are proposals that focus on how to move narrative into space, and to question the constructs of that narrative and how it unfolds, and what it means to be a Spectator.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
EDEN

This project is an art studio / media practice for the duration of an extended series that is devoted to challenging the concept of cinema's linearly and temporally based duration, the current basis of cinematic experience and presentation. The larger question is "What would happen if experimental animation / narrative cinema could be created as a spatially simultaneous experience, inclusive of contextual relationships, space and duration , as fine art is experienced?"

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
ANTI-BODY

This project is focused on spatially experienced narrative, but the body being utilized as a "transgressive" interceptor, invading and infecting the narrative. The piece is meant to examine what it means to invade meaning as the observer, the voyeur.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
THIS WILL BE TRUE

This project explores the tool of propaganda as machine, as social construct, and as revisitonist history narrative. The Spectator as Consumer and Producer of information is propaganda's ultimate conduit, effectively constructing a communal narrative.
